What is a Same Game Multi?

Traditionally, punters were not able to place a Same Game Multi (SGM), but the popularity has risen very recently.

A same game multi is a specific type of bet which allows you to combine different single bets on the same match, or race, that merge into one multi bet.

You can choose up to 12 legs! In this instance, the odds will accumulate from every single bet, until the payout becomes much more substantial.

Although these types of bets are more risky, as there are more components, the rewards are much higher.

Instead of placing a bet on “Tom Hawkins to kick 2 or More Goals,” you can combine this with other bets you think will get up. Then, you can hopefully get more bang for your buck!

If you navigate to any market, from AFL, NBA, NRL, NFL, Horse Racing and more, you will see the SGM multi icon.

Add your selections one by one, and they will accumulate for you in your Bet Slip, calculating the odds for you as you go.

If a bet leg within your SGM is voided, your bet will be settled for the price of your remaining legs.

However, if your player is injured/ejected during the game, or your horse cannot complete the race, the leg stands, and you will lose your entire bet.

    Example:

Here is a list of some of the single bets you may find in an AFL Match against Richmond V Geelong:

    • Geelong to Win against Richmond – Odds: $2.10
    • Tom Hawkins to kick 2 or More Goals – Odds: $2.50
    • Gary Ablett to get 20+ Disposals – Odds: $2.90
    • Patrick Dangerfield to get 25+ Disposals – Odds: $1.70

Instead of placing three individual bets, you can instead combine them into a SGM.

This means that instead of putting $5 on Geelong to Win and getting a Return of $10.50, you can put $5 on Geelong to Win, Tom Hawkins to Kick 2 or More Goals, AND Gary Ablett to get 20+ Disposals and Patrick Dangerfield to get 25+ disposals for a significantly larger return.

Many people prefer to place a multi bet in the same game, as they prefer both higher odds and higher return that you will not get from a single bet.

How are Odds calculated for Multi Bets?

Standard Multi bets allow you to combine two or more individual bets into a single wager in order to get higher odds (and hopefully higher returns for your winning bet!).
    Example:

    • Let’s say that Geelong are paying $2 to win vs Fremantle,
    • Lachie Neale is paying $2 to get 25+ disposals vs Collingwood, and
    • Jack Steele is paying $2 to get over 25 disposals vs Richmond.

The three individual bets are in different games and can be combined into a standard multi bet.

As standard multi where the individual bets are not related (in different AFL games), the calculation for 3 x bets each paying $2 would be ($2 x $2) x $2 (odds of $8 for the three leg multi).

How are odds calculated for same game multis?

In a same game multibet, the direct correlation between 3 individual outcomes is factored into the odds given.

    Example:

Let’s say that Geelong are playing GWS.

    • Geelong are paying $2 to win,
    • Tom Hawkins is paying $2 to kick 4 or more goals, and,
    • Patrick Dangerfield is paying $2 to get over 25 disposals.

In this example, if Tom Hawkins kicks 4 goals and Dangerfield gets 25 touches, it’s more likely that Geelong will win. So in this instance the same game multi odds might only be offered at $4.50 for example.

However, odds are not always lessened. If the bet was Geelong to win, Dangerfield to get 25+ disposals and an opposition player to kick 6+ goals, there would be a slight odds boost (likelihood of a Geelong win is less likely when an opposition player kicks 6 goals)

Are there any rules of a Same Game Multi?

The only rules of a Same Game Multi bet, is that all the legs of the multi must come from the same event.

In one of the first the examples, we used an AFL Match between Richmond and Geelong.

The first selection is a head to head bet, where we had selected Geelong to win at $2.10. for the 2nd leg, we had selected Tom Hawkins to kick 2 or more goals at $2.50.

In the 3rd and final leg, we had chosen Gary Ablett go get 20 or more disposals. Because these are all from the same game, they are able to be combined.

What happens if one leg in a multi gets voided?

Here is an example of if one leg of your bet gets voided:

    • Geelong to Win against Richmond – Odds: $2.10
    • Tom Hawkins to kick 2 or More Goals – Odds: $2.50
    • Gary Ablett to get 20+ Disposals – Odds: $2.90
    • Patrick Dangerfield to get 25+ Disposals – Odds: $1.70

You have placed your bet and are waiting to watch the game. You open your phone and see Gary Ablett is a late out and he will not be playing in today’s game.

Well, what does this mean for your SGM?

We’re here to answer that for you! If all other legs get up in your bet, you will still be paid out for them.

It will lower your odds, but not significantly, as the voided leg will be subtracted from your final pay-out.

What happens if a player in a multi gets injured?

Here is an example of if your player gets injured:

    • Geelong to Win against Richmond – Odds: $2.10
    • Tom Hawkins to kick 2 or More Goals – Odds: $2.50
    • Gary Ablett to get 20+ Disposals – Odds: $2.90
    • Patrick Dangerfield to get 25+ Disposals – Odds: $1.70

You’re watching the game and someone lays a hard tackle on Gary Ablett. His shoulder is injured and it’s only the 1st quarter!? He won’t be returning to field.

What does this mean for your Same Game Multi bet?

Unfortunately, you lose. Because this has happened during the game, and Gary Ablett will not be able to complete his disposal count, this leg has failed, meaning your Same Game Multi has lost.

Are there ever any Same Game Multi Specials or Promos?

Betting companies love to run promos on Same Race Multis or Same Game Multis. During sporting seasons, Sportsbet, Ladbrokes, Bet365, Unibet, Neds, PointsBet and more all run their own individual specials.

Usually, this involved placing a Same Game Multi above 3 Legs, and if one of the legs fails, you get your money back in Bonus Bets!

What is a 3 Leg Same Game Multi?

A 3 leg Same Game Multi is a Same Game Multi, just with 3 Legs. The minimum amount to fulfil a the ‘Same Game Multi’ criteria is 2 Legs, however 3 Legs are usually the minimum to apply for Specials and Promos.

Can I use a Bonus Bet on a Same Game Multi?

Now that we’re speaking about Bonus Bets, you’ve probably started musing: ‘Can I use a Bonus Bet on a Same Game Multi?’ And we’re happy to inform you that, yes, in fact, you can.

Though, obviously, the same rules apply for Bonus Bets as per usual.

You can only receive the winnings back from the Bonus Bet, not the stake.

Can I cash out on my Same Game Multi?

You break it, you buy it. The cash out feature is not available for Same Game Multi’s. This is purely because if one leg of your Multi loses, you will not get your money back.

Even if it looks like all legs will get up, there is still a possibility of failure. So unfortunately, when you place a SGM, you will not have the opportunity to cash out.

Can I Multi, My Same Game Multis?

Now we’re talking! You think Geelong will beat Richmond and and Tom Hawkins will kick a goal… but you also think Essendon will beat Melbourne and Jake Stringer ‘The Package’ will kick 2 Goals.

Well, we have a solution! Sportsbet offer combination Same Game Multi’s, so you can add all these selections together to make a bigger multi, with greater odds!

    Example:

Here is a list of some of the single bets you may find in an AFL Match against Richmond V Geelong:

    • Geelong to Win against Richmond – Odds: $2.10
    • Tom Hawkins to kick a Goal – Odds: $1.30

Here is a list of some of the single bets you may find in an AFL Match against Essendon V Melbourne:

    • Essendon to Win against Melbourne – Odds: $1.40
    • Jake Stringer to kick 2 Goals – Odds: $2.60

Jump onto Sportsbet and open up the first match you want to create a bet in the same game for. Click the ‘Same Game Multi’ tab and add your selections as per usual.

In this instance, you would add Geelong to Win Head to Head, and Tom Hawkins to kick a goal. They will add as a Same Game Multi to your bet slip automatically.

Then head to the second market, in this instance, it will be Essendon v Melbourne. Click on the ‘Same Game Multi’ tab again and add Essendon to Win Head to Head and Jake Stringer to kick 2 Goals.

They will automatically merge with your other SGM bets – to create a combination of 2 SGMs. This will create MUCH Larger odds.

Can I Add a Single to a Same Game Multi?

Sportsbet are once again the only betting agency that allow for this.

If you think Geelong will Win against Richmond and Tom Hawkins will kick a goal, and you think Essendon will win, but Jake Stringer will not kick 2 goals, you are able to combine your single Essendon selection, and your Geelong Same Game Multi.
